CATHOLIC SCHOOLS
We are blessed to have a good parish primary school and a local RC Secondary School in the town. They are:
ST TERESA'S RC PRIMARY SCHOOL
Headteacher: Miss Elizabeth Blount
Telephone: (01387) 255732
ST JOSEPH'S RC COLLEGE (our Catholic Secondary School) Headteacher: Mrs Bernadette Jones
Telephone: (01387) 252893 or 261077
Please support our Catholics schools as much as you possibly can by registering your children there for their education. This is a unique opportunity for us as a catholic community to have this facility on our doorstep and to build on that link of home, school and parish.
NURSING HOMES IN THE PARISH
Lochduhar Care Home
Dalawoodie Nursing Home Thornhill Hospital Briary Park Nursing Home, Thornhill Abbeyfield Nursing Home, Thornhill Queensberry Nursing Home, Sanquhar
Please inform Father if you wish anyone to be visited in any of these homes. He and a group of dedicated visitors will be happy to call. Holy communion can also be brought. The Sacrament of the Sick should be requested, especially if an illness or condition becomes worse.
DUMFRIES ROYAL INFIRMARY The Hospital Chaplain is: Fr David Borland, St Andrew's, Dumfries Tel: (01387) 254281 Email: priest.stas@tiscali.co.uk
In an emergency please ask a member of staff to contact the Catholic Chaplain immediately. For a routine visit whilst in Hospital ask a member of staff to place your name on the Catholic Chaplains list or give Fr David a call or email him before you are admitted. The Hospital only informs Fr David of RC patients if they receive a specific request for them to do so. Of course a family member can do this for you. SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION OF CHILDREN
The Children celebrate the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation and Eucharist normally when they are in Primary 4 at school. Their preparation is a three-way partnership with family, school and Parish.
We are grateful to Miss Blount and the teachers and support staff of our parish primary school (St Teresa's) for the great work they put into preparing the children of p.4 for the reception of the Sacraments.
Children who are not able to attend St Teresa's primary school because of distance, mainly in the Upper Nithsdale area of the Parish and in Thornhill, Moniaive and Dunscore, are helped by the Catechists (Leaders) at the "Ninian Club", which is held on Saturdays in St Andrew's Parish Hall in Brooke Street here in Dumfries. This is a shared project with our neighbouring parish of St Andrew's.
To enrol or simply get more information please have a chat with Father.
