Parish Groups

Please have a look at the many different ways the people of St Teresa's give of their time. We are an active parish community, open to any help you'd like to offer. If you would like to become involved please contact any member of the group you are interested in or have a chat with Father.

In most instances  volunteering will require some administration and preparation/training before you can take up your voluntary position. This is all very routine and painless. Father or Mr John Lawson, (01387-252737) our parish care co-ordinator, will be able to assist you in this process. Please contact them to register as a parish volunteer.

 The Parish Committee

This group of parishioners meet regularly to discuss, discern and animate the pastoral life of the parish community alongside their parish priest. Ideas of how we can develop our life in Christ are always welcome.

The Parish Finance Committee

Advises and assists the Parish Priest in the annual finance and fabric administration of the Parish.

Parishioners with practical skills are particularly encouraged to offer their services to this group.

This group also organise the counting and banking of the parish collections. If you have skills in this area Father would welcome your help to boost the numbers of this group of dedicated parishioners.

 The Pro-Life Group

As Catholics we have a moral duty to uphold the sanctity of life from conception to natural end. In our modern day it seems the solution to any health situation of the unborn, handicapped, incapacitated or frail, elderly or terminally ill is to be helped to die. The Pro-Life movement is about helping people to live and live with the dignity that God himself has given each and everyone of us-made in God's image and likeness. This group of parishioners do their best to draw our attention to the Pro-Life campaign and the support we can give to it.  They would also offer practicable assistance to pregnant parents or parents with very young children when a request is received. Please contact us if you would like to join.

RCIA - The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

This is a group which meets to accompany those adults who wish to enquire into the Catholic faith. This process includes the reception at Easter of those enquirers who wish to come into full communion with the Catholic Church. If you are interested in joining the team of catechists (leaders) or are interested in the Catholic Faith please speak with any of the existing team members or of course Father.

The Sunday Teas

A group of volunteers provide tea and coffee in the Parish Hall following the Sunday morning Mass. This gives parishioners a chance to sit and chat and catch up with each other. Volunteers are always welcome-have a chat with Peggy.

St Vincent de Paul Society (SVDP)

This is a body of parishioners who distribute to those most in need the charity that parishioners give each week on leaving church. They go about their work anonymously and without fuss. Please speak to any of the members you see collecting each week if you would like to join or have a word with Father.

The Ladies' Guild

The ladies of the Parish meet socially in the Parish hall on Tuesday evenings, of each week at 7.30pm. They have a great calendar of events and many interesting speakers on all sorts of subjects. They also do a great deal of fund-raising for the Parish and other good causes. Simply go along on a Tuesday evening-you will be very welcome.

Altar Servers

A ministry especially suited to the boys and girls who have made their first holy communion and our older young people. They assist at Mass by leading the processions, helping to prepare the altar, carrying the Cross, candles and the Missal. New members are always welcome-have a chat with one of the leaders in the Sacristy on a Sunday or say to Father and he will introduce you.

Music Ministry

A number of our parishioners serve the parish in this wonderful liturgical ministry as organists, musicians, cantors and choir members. If you are gifted in this area we'd love to hear from you! Speak to any of the organists or say to Father and he will put you in touch.

Youth Ministry

The young people of the parish are encouraged to meet together and plan a calendar of events that include opportunities for faith development, socializing, pilgrimages and animating the Sunday evening Mass every month or so. Their plans are advertised in the weekly bulletin. If you'd like to become involved or have a good idea please text or call Cameron on 07545373719 or call, email or chat with Father.

Liturgical Ministries

Many parishioners are involved in the various liturgical ministries.Volunteers are always welcome to present the gifts, pass-keep, to read at Services and as Extra-ordinary Ministers of the Eucharist. Full preparation will be given. If you would like to become involved have a word with Father.

The Children's Liturgy

This is a wonderful ministry offered to our young families and their children. Each Sunday during our morning Mass the youngsters present are invited to leave the church at the beginning of Mass and go to the Baptistery (a room in the church) with the leaders and hear the gospel story of that day in a simpler form, enjoying exploring it often with lots of craft work. At the presentation of the gifts (The Offertory procession) they return to church and tell us all a little of what they have learned.

Church Cleaners

Our church is kept clean and tidy by a band of weekly volunteers who meet on Thursdays after the morning service. Volunteers are always welcome, even if you can only manage a Thursday here or there-just come along-there is plenty to do.

Ministry to the sick and housebound

A dedicated group of parish visitors exists to call to those parishioners who find themselves housebound at home or in care, quite often offering them the opportunity to receive holy communion at the same time. Please contact Father if you would like to volunteer for this ministry.

Our Ethiopian Project

We are proud to have as a parish link our brothers and sisters in Ethiopia. We support this mission by our generous monthly contributions. The money is then used in any way the sisters who run the project would find useful to their work. our parish co-ordinator, Mrs Eileen Woodman, would welcome your help or contact Father if you would like to get involved.
